National Margarita Day is February 22nd – Learn to make Chef Maven’s Jalapeno Mango Margaritas
National Margarita Day is February 22nd.
I thought I would have some fun with this one and share a new recipe with you for fresh jalapeno and mango frozen margaritas in light of February 22nd being National Margarita day…
I was just in fact last night, at a web client’s of mine’s restaurant and learned he had created a new ‘drink’ called the mango margarita and I knew I could do my own twist on this new drink of his… so here is not one, but two recipes.
One for the classic margarita recipe, and two, my recipe for fresh jalapeno and mango margaritas. Oh yeah, let’s get started!
Classic Margarita Recipe
Ingredients:
- If using salt, place in a shallow dish. Moisten the rim of a rocks glass with a dampened paper towel, then dip in salt.
- I like to personally chill the glasses before adding the drink mix, so add fresh water and ice cubes while mixing up the cocktail, then once ready to serve, empty the glass, dip the edge in the dish to coat edges of glasses with the salt, then fill with your cocktail, then add garnishes at your whim.
- Fill the glass with ice; add tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau; and stir a few times until chilled. Serve immediately.
- P.S. – you can also mix the liquid ingredients in a pitcher, then serve accordingly versus making one drink at a time…
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or less)
- 1/3 cup salt
- 1/4 cup sugar (white or raw)
- Place ingredients in a bowl, stir then place in a shallow dish, set aside until ready to use.
- The nice mixture of salt and sugar help balance the fresh jalapeno adding a nice twist to a fresh drink.
- 1 fresh jalapeno, ribs removed – diced fine. (Use half of the jalapeno if you are a bit hesitant on the heat factor – and I won’t call you chicken) (chicken – ok I lied) lol
- 2 ripe mangoes, peeled, cubed. Use the fresh mangoes here people, I would not suggest using mango pulp juice – it’s too sweet.
- 6 ounces tequila (blanco, 100 percent agave suggested)
- Fresh Juice of 2 to 3 limes
- 3 ounces Cointreau (not Triple Sec) (you may use Triple Sec, and yes it is cheaper, and it will be slightly sweeter in tastes as well)
- 1-2 cups of ice
- Sprigs of fresh mint and fresh slices of lime for garnishing drinks
- Add cubed mango, lime juice and diced jalapeno to blender, and give it a whirl until well blended into a pulp.
- Chill glasses accordingly, and coat rims of glasses with salt mixture.
- Add 1 cup of ice to blender and whirl once again.
- Add alcohol to blender and additional ice if wished for, then serve immediately.
- Garnish with fresh lime slices and a sprig of mint.
- (You can substitute fresh pineapple for the mango if you would like – both of which make for delicious combinations when added to the fresh jalapenos.)
